The journey to establish this organization has been a winding road and a calling from God. After serving as a principal and an educator, I saw firsthand the need for more support for our neurodiverse students.
Too often, students with learning differences receive band-aid solutions instead of lasting support. Real growth comes from addressing the root of learning challenges.
As a Professionally Certified National Institute of Learning Development (NILD) Educational Therapist, I provide innovative, research-backed therapies that develop the whole student. We don’t just teach what to think — we teach how to think. When students face challenges in their everyday life or classroom, they now have new strategies to overcome obstacles and tackle problems. This allows them to excel in school and grow into confident, independent learners who are prepared for life. Too often, children are told what to learn, but our approach is entirely different. We address the underlying issues.
Here is one example out of many success stories:
When Emma first began NILD therapy, reading felt impossible. She struggled to sound out words, often guessed at what the word said, and quickly grew frustrated. Sitting still and focusing on a task was just as hard—her mind wandered, and even short assignments left her overwhelmed. With consistent, structured support through therapy, things began to change. Instead of rushing through words, Emma learned strategies to slow down and truly decode and comprehend them. Her confidence grew each time she realized she could read a word that had once felt out of reach. Therapy also gave her tools to strengthen her attention and working memory, helping her stay engaged and complete her work with success.
Over time, Emma’s frustration turned into determination. She not only caught up in reading but began to enjoy books, something she never imagined at the start. The same child who once avoided reading now brings a book to therapy to show off her progress. With consistent support and the right tools, Emma discovered that she could excel—and that confidence has carried into every part of her learning.
I am deeply committed to helping children who struggle in traditional classrooms. By empowering students to think about their own thinking, they develop confidence and capabilities to excel in school. I am passionate about helping our neurodiverse students be confident, creative, and be who they are made to be.
The vision is simple: We aim to build a generation of confident, capable learners who overcome academic challenges, grow in their God-given potential, and carry that growth into every area of life.

Meet the Founder
Deborah Hammett founded Discovery Therapy of the Lowcountry to help students grow in confidence and skills through a targeted, science-based approach that re-trains and strengthens brain pathways. The therapy techniques get to the root issue of the learning challenge and help students become confident thinkers who excel in all areas of life.
She holds a Master of Teaching and Learning in Special Education from Liberty University, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood from the University of Georgia, ESOL Certification, Read to Succeed Certification, and Administration certifications from the South Carolina Department of Education and the Association of Christian Schools International.
