Executive Function Coaching and  Support

Build the Skills to Plan, Start, Follow Through — and Work More Independently
One-on-one executive function support for children, teens, and adults who want to strengthen organization, time management, focus, planning, task initiation, and follow-through. No diagnosis required.

When Knowing What to Do Isn't Enough

Someone can be bright and motivated and still struggle to get started, manage time, keep track of responsibilities, or follow a plan all the way through. As school, work, and life expectations grow, those gaps get harder to hide.

Is this you or your child?

  • Knows what needs to be done but can't seem to start

  • Underestimates how long things will take

  • Misses deadlines or forgets responsibilities

  • Gets overwhelmed by big or multi-step tasks

  • Struggles to decide where to begin

  • Loses track of materials or assignments

  • Relies heavily on reminders, nagging, or last-minute pressure

  • Wants to become more independent

What Is Executive Function?

Executive functions are the thinking skills that let us manage ourselves toward a goal — deciding what matters, making a plan, starting, holding information in mind, adjusting when things change, and following through to the end.

These challenges show up often with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and other learning differences — but they also show up in people with no diagnosis at all.

My approach goes beyond planners and organizational tricks. Using Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) and National Institute for Learning Development (NILD) techniques, I work on the underlying cognitive skills behind executive function — not just the surface habit — so the strategies hold up on their own, without me in the room.

Skills we may target:

Planning · Organization · Prioritization · Focus · Time Management · Task Initiation · Impulse Control · Working Memory · Self-Monitoring · Problem-Solving · Flexible Thinking · Follow-Through

A Different Approach to Executive Function Support

Typical academic coaching:

  • Focuses on this week's assignments and deadlines

  • Helps organize a planner or schedule

  • Leans on reminders and accountability

  • Aims to get today's work done

Discovery Therapy's approach:

  • Identifies the thinking patterns behind the struggle

  • Strengthens the cognitive skills underneath self-management

  • Builds independence, not reliance on outside structure

  • Aims for change that lasts beyond this semester

Is This a Good Fit?

Executive function support is a good fit if you (or your child) know what needs to happen but consistently struggle to make it happen — or if things are already going okay and you want more independence, less prompting, and more confidence.

We provide the language and thinking tools they need to think about their thinking.
